@Jonmad17 I take issue with the idea that Muslim cultures are "more violent". And the idea, even if true, that it's down to polygamy…? Wtf!

@elcomesselink1793 Also, the Netherlands uses a system of proportional representation when electing parties which in some respects is fairer than a first‐past‐the‐post system. This forces the parties to form coalitions and engage in negotiations rather than have a winner‐takes‐all where one party or politician can just ride roughshod over the opposition.

@scooterstudios123 And who was doing the blockading and why?

@leorkoubi4626 Perhaps you are forgetting that the great intercontinental railroad system the USA had before then that was systematically degraded to make way for the interstate highway system, a transportation system built after lots of lobbying by and for the benefit of the automobile and oil industries.

I disagree with you on whether China will surpass the United States. The fact that the USA is planning wars with China and Russia and sanctioning them is a sign of weakness, not of strength. In my opinion, China is well on its way to reclaiming the economic and political superpower status it had before the 19th century. Russia also has made a comeback and is challenging US hegemony on the European continent. I don't know about India but it too historically had been one of the two major economies of the world for most of the last thousand years or so and there is every likelihood that it will regain its prominence as a major world economy in the future.

Even if possible that would be perceived as threatening the hegemony of the United States and would provoke attack. The USA wants other countries to be semi-developed at best, dependent, and under its thumb. Just look at the examples of Germany and Japan and the USA's reaction to them. Economies that look as if they are going to outcompete those of the USA are sabotaged and even de-industrialised (Great Britain under Thatcher). What we are seeing currently happening within the EU is the USA attempting to do exactly to western Europe what the it did to its colonies during the course of the 18th and 19th centuries.

They are arrogant enough to believe that the whole world owes them a living and their interests are the only interests that matter. To the USA the continent of Europe is merely an adjunct and a part of its sphere of influence — the Monroe Doctrine since 1945 extended to include not only the Americas but Europe as well, Russia alone among the Europeans refusing to recognise US suzereinty and vassal status.

Funny how much of the economy of the United States is dependent on the immigration of foreigners. I wonder what would happen long-term if that immigration were to slow or stop.

It goes up even higher if you replace ghosts with angels, and higher still if you use God, Jesus, the Devil or the Virgin Mary. I don't know the number for UFO's or green men.

Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Certainly nothing discernible to the average person. And absolutely nothing that they will bother about.

But that's just the way the International Monetary Fund (aka the US government) likes it.

I don't think the Chinese would care. Taiwan is an issue of national sovereignty for the People's Republic of China. The same with the two Koreas, Vietnam during the 1950's and Germany before 1989.

And economics. Namely, capitalists (especially of the liberal/neo-liberal kind).

Since formally reuniting with the mainland, Hong Kong has had de facto no meaningful border as it had just become merely another administrative district of China. Therefore its current border status is more symbolic than anything else.

Sounds like a good idea.

@josephnormyle28 Wasn't he the one dismissed by the Queen of England?

@JusRozYo The same for China. The USA provocatively sails warships of China's coast and its China that's accused of sabre‐rattling.

The USA is amazing.

What, a capitalist sharing! Anathema.

@SlideGD Seemed to work reasonably well enough in the old Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China.

@trtyuiop And the parrot is not dead. It's just resting.
