Maybe this time it would be a defeat so strategic that it would be too great to accept. Perhaps the USA by such a defeat would lose any standing it had among its allies and client states. It might be like the loss of the Middle East to the Turkish Ottoman empire that led to the downfall of the Ottoman's themselves.

Russia and China will simply continue their trade with Asia and the rest of the world and ignore Europe until the USA loses its influence there.

Considering that Ukraine was an integral part of both imperial Russia and its successor the Soviet Union until very recently then it it might be better to see the Ukraine-Russia war as an irredentist/revanchist war on the part of Russia. That is, Russia is reclaiming territory that is historically Russian.
