It's been effected by the very processes he's talking about.

But what if those very same algorithms set the price and other material conditions in the first place based upon stochastic and heuristic mathematical models of human behaviour and complex game theory built on, not just millions, but billions of data points collected on a single individual over their lifetime up to the point where such algorithms can predict with the utmost accuracy that person's likely choices? If such algorithms/mathematical formulae create the initial starting conditions for a person's wants and desires, conditions tailored especially to that person's unique profile which they will then base not only their present but their future decision making on, even the very reasoning processes that they use to make those decisions in the first place, what will that do for our idea of free will? We will be trapped in an eternal echo chamber where every prior decision we've ever made, however minor and seemingly insignificant, will increasingly narrow down our future choices until we have none, our fate sealed and utterly deterministic.

Populism and populist are words the Establishment and orthodoxy use to attack the Great Unwashed and defend their elitism from valid criticism.

Pinker commits the 'naturalistic fallacy' of trying to derive an 'ought' from an 'is'.

A big army armed with sticks and stones fighting an army armed with nukes is not really a fair fight.

He's a mouthpiece of British intelligence and an agent of influence. Probably works for the Americans and Israelis too.

@fullfildreamz Is that why it turned Russia from a mediaeval nation of peasants riven by famines to a modern industrial superpower in just 40 years? And what about China?

@meganh9460 : So, no different than the western International Monetary Fund and World Bank then. Regarding China's international lending and the West's, I wonder which is more likely to write off odious debt that cannot be repaid and less likely to impose harmful 'structural adjustment' on indebted countries.

@ThomasDanielsen1000 How can you use the phrase "unprovoked invasions" with a straight face given the recent history of NATO, Britain and the USA?
2
Britain did the same in 1939 with Poland. Stop negotiating with the Germans, we've got your back. And they did. The rest is history. It would seem Ukraine has gone down the same path.
2
Because it competes.

@caseyspaos448 And that's why philosophy is not science. And never will be.

Or don't want to understand it.

And trafficked by the state-within-a-state that orchestrated 9/11 and the JFK/BK/MLK/MX assassinations. After all, if you're going to have your own private army, intelligence organisation and a global media propaganda system at your command to effect regime change both at home and abroad Donald Rumsfeld and pals need vast amounts of money, as much or more so than the official state can provide, to finance it.

Russia did enter into peace negotiations. However, the German ex-Chancellor Merkel herself has admitted that the EU's so‐called peace negotiations were just a sham, designed merely to buy time for Ukraine to build up its military.

I'd say that neoliberalism IS fascism – neo-fascism. It's just that the fascists (neoliberals/neoconservatives) who have monopoly control over public perception creation (or a monopoly over cultural production) aren't calling it that, no more than they're calling the depression we're on the verge of a depression.

And which sounds better (or more authentic)?
1
The inner voice, talking to itself.

@David_Lloyd-Jones Recently, from what I've heard, China has just begun a serious attempt at solving issues surrounding the South China Sea and undermine the USA by entering into renewed dialogue with its neighbours.

In truth most of this tribalism was caused by the USA and its allies deliberately sowing discord rather than an innate tendency to factionalism.

His indignation and rage are borne of sheer frustration at the self-evident truths that his fellow guests seem so (wilfully?) ignorant of, and the utter brazeness of their hypocrisy.

How is being a materialist opposed to holding to the concept of change based upon random genetic mutation selected for by the environment?

So you're saying that the accomplishments of the Chinese, Vietnamese and Russians in bringing their countries out of feudalism and poverty in just one or two generations is a failure? Strange how the populations of both China and Russia grew most during the times of Mao and Stalin, As did their living standards. Meanwhile, the living standards of the Third World dropped during the cold war and the advent of neoliberalism. Are you for real or just a bot sent to infest critical discourse with divisive hate speech? Or one of those CIA-linked, billionaire-funded libertarians with your right wing equivalent of left wing anarchism, another ideology that doesn't work?

The End of History.... The USA: we won world, you lost! World: no we didn't! Yes you did! No we didn't! Yes.... Ad infinitum.

Why do you say that?

That's probably exactly why he's on the panel: because he is an agent of influence for British intelligence, guaranteed to further the Establishment's point of view.

But the world is not a game. Reality cannot be made to neatly fit the algorithms of a mathematician using a computer.
