  1. The Nobel Prize may be good when it comes to science but has become something of a joke when it strays into politics. I know that politics is a subject which is controversial even at the best of times but giving the Peace Prize to recipients who are, to put it mildly, clearly undeserving of it does nothing to enhance the reputation of the Nobel Institute and, indeed, reflects badly on the Nobel Prize committee and calls into question their moral judgement.

It seems the USA has perfected a form of imperialism even more successful than that of its predecessor, namely indirect neo-colonialism where it rules through proxies rather than directly through governor-generals. This gives the colonised the illusion that their free and makes it a whole lot harder to rid themselves of the neo-imperialist yoke because it would involve both civil war and cultural revolution to overthrow their own comprador class. In effect, they would be fighting to free themselves from a deeply ingrained culture of self-subjugation implanted centuries earlier. How does one even begin to fight culture? Just look at the Indians and Latin Americans to see how deeply westernised and western-oriented they are. Can you wipe out 500 of Catholicism? Can you rid yourselves of speaking Portuguese, English and Spanish? Rid yourselves of European architecture and Western clothes?

  10. Perhaps China will eventually be able to bring some form of stability to Myanmar through its Belt and Road Initiative, especially as its economy thrives vis‐à‐vis that of the USA. As Asia becomes more integrated economically the hope will be that some of the prosperity that may come as a result will bring improvements in the lives of ordinary people in Myanmar such as to bring about raised living standards and political stability. The USA will then no longer be able to feed on the discontent caused by lack of socio-economic development.

The armchair warriors of the USA, the ones who can't shake off their cold war mindset, want to take down both but to successfully engage China they must first neutralise Russia, otherwise they are like Germany in world wars 1 and 2, fighting a two front war. The worst nightmare for them is some sort of Eurasian union with the coming together of Russia, India, China, France and Germany.

  14. The USA as currently constituted is institutionally incapable of being anything other than imperialist/colonialist. The same applies to a lesser extent to western Europe, namely Britain and France, which built their wealth and prosperity by leeching off the rest of the world, especially through their empires. Now that Britain cannot do this (at least to the extent it peviously did) and France is having increasing difficulties doing this in Africa they are finding their economies, and by extension their societies, are declining. The economy of the USA will also suffer if it stops being able to exploit the resources of other countries. Anglo-American capitalism is innately predatory, even more so in its present incarnation of corporate financialized neoliberalism. That's why China and Russia must do everything they can to help the Brics+ countries develop their economies so that they can be independent of the West and gain true economic sovereignty.

In would seem that the foreign policy of the USA is largely determined by the dynamic existing between its military‐industrial complex and its corporations and banks so I ask: how would the loss of the US dollar as the world's reserve currency and the subsequent decline in its purchasing power effect the country's ability, as well as its willingness, to destabilise other countries? They say that a crash/depression is right around the corner though I don't know how true that is and if it occurred what effect it would have on the US-China-Russia dynamic.

It's because the USA doesn't like the name South China Sea as to them it seems to imply that China has a central role to play in the region, while they don't like the name Asia‐Pacific because China being an Asian country, again, it seems to imply China has a central role to play in the area. It works for a while but becomes less effective over time. The USA economy has basically been corporatized, a state in which private corporations depend on the public purse to keep themselves in business and where the most profitable areas are also the least productive from the ordinary consumer's point of view (though not from the point of view of that small slice of the population that is the wealthiest).

  51. I think Singapore has more to gain in the long run by pursuing a policy of benevolent neutrality towards China than by siding outright with the USA. Its close proximity, cultural and ethnic ties and an economy based on being a seaport open to all weigh heavily in favour of the city state maintaining good bilateral relations with China. Anything else would be economic madness as I don't think that any other South East Asian country, with the possible exception of Japan, is likely to be that keen to damage their economies for the sake of continued western hegemony.

  52. Why would the United States of America pick a war with the People's Republic of China knowing that it would in all likelihood lose, both militarily and economically? Do they think Japan, Korea, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines will fight China on their behalf and leave South East Asia in ruins for the USA to just sweep down like a vulture like happened in Europe in world wars 1 & 2? I think not. I think that the countries of Asia are far too sensible and far too integrated into a Chinese-led regional and global economy to do that. And make no mistake the maritime power of the USA has been completely negated by the development of supersonic and hypersonic anti-ship missiles and modern submarines such that its navy would be comprehensively destroyed if it tried to blockade China. Like he himself has said, unfortunately Thailand is caught between a rock and a hard place in that being seen as too militant in standing up for the interests of the Thai people runs the risk of alienating western support, while being seen as being too weak in defending their interests runs the far greater risk of alienating them. It's a dilemma that increasingly not only does the Global South have to face but traditional allies like Germany, Britain and France are also having to face as well under both presidents Trump and Biden.   65. In all likelihood the USA knew from the very start that Ukraine could never win in a war against the Russian Federation and thus this was never the expected outcome. In my opinion the intention was to drain both countries of resources and manpower and eventually leave Ukraine a failed state and an economic burden on Russia. In addition, I think it was also intended to divide Europe not only against Russia but also against itself. Now it's on to China, but here I doubt they will have much success because the Chinese know what's coming and neither they nor the people of Taiwan want any part of it.

If it's a capitalist "democracy" it almost certainly will because under such a set up capital dominates and as private capital tends toward corporitization and corporations/corporate economies tend toward globalization, they appropriate more and more of the public commons and concentrate more and more wealth in private hands, leaving less and less for everyone else, which tends to make them unpopular and thus the capitalists are against democracy, those without wealth and property exercising their power against those with.

  231. Like Rome, when the USA cannot attack Asia – where all the money and riches created by economic development are going be – and cannot exploit Africa either, it will stagnate and either collapse or have someone like emperor Constantine revive it's flagging fortunes, if only for a while.

  232. They may have succeeded in one of their principal aims though: that of dividing Europe with a new iron curtain and sowing the seeds of a new cold war. Preventing greater Eurasian economic and political integration is a permanant and strategic objective of the USA, as is making Europe as dependent as possible.

  233.  @latiffabdul  I dare say even Japan and South Korea will join that East-South bloc too eventually. Those two countries are after all Asian and right on the doorstep of China, the principal country in Asia, while the USA and Europe on the other hand are thousands of miles away. It is also very probable that Australia and New Zealand as countries located in Oceania in the Asia-Pacific will eventually be included in that East-South bloc.
