  1. 8.19 Not necessarily cannibalism. There is a form of body disposal called excarnation where the corpse is left out in the open to be eaten by scavengers. Tibetans are known to do this, as are the Jains? of India who even place their dead in special structures made for this purpose. In at least the Tibetan case the practice is accompanied by the body being cut up (dismembered, disenbowelled and the bones broken to expose the marrow). These cut marks could be signs of this rather than of cannibalism.
