  1.  @tannakaobi1  brothels/prostitution also spread disease, so seeking to limit them may have been a primitive form of disease control (albeit unwitting, as presumably they did not know about how diseases are spread). Prostitution may also be disruptive to married life and potentially damaging to the life chances of any children born as a result of prostitution.
