@bjbosche What about non-commercial fusion power? Most of this research and development seems to be directly or indirectly state sponsored using tax payers money so I would argue that there is no good reason why the viable end result should not be also. I think it would be better not to give up this energy source (if it ever gets to the stage where it's economically viable) to the private sector to monopolise and make a profit from, but rather let it be owned and operated by state governments (or the federal government) at cost price and funded by state/national taxes.
