Using Russian neo-fascists to fight straight-up Ukrainian fascists seems a reasonably good strategy. They have the same mindset so know how their enemies think. It may also be useful for Russian society in general in that it might part-neutralise the potential danger that these groups pose to wider civil society by having them dissipate their violence and hate on an approved enemy in another country rather than at home. Combat in Ukraine may even thin their ranks. It is unfortunate though, albeit not too surprising, that these groups may also be used or otherwise tacitly encouraged to terrorise Russian dissidents and other non-conformist groups.
