  1. What are the chances of this gaining ground? I'm given to understand that France, together with Germany, are the backbone of the European Union and it couldn't exist without them.

  2. Don't bet on it. The European Union is very popular in France because of the economic and political power it gives them vis-a-vis the rest of Europe and the USA. France, as a founding member, has tremendous influence over other member states and allows them to act more effectively as a counterweight to Germany.

  3. If Parliament deems it necessary to have a state-controlled TV station then it should fund it out of general taxation. There should be no special, separate tax like now. As it stands the BBC licence fee is an onerous and unnecessary drain on people's budgets that they can ill afford during a recession.
