  1. It may have escaped colonialism (something related to but different from imperialism) but it hasn't, unfortunately, escaped neo-colonialism. When it escapes the clutches of the IMF/World Bank and the US dollar (without becoming, in doing so, dependent on China and its Yuan) then we'll see. Perhaps it would be better to describe it as being a semi-sovereign country.
