  1. NATO was always about the USA and not about Europe. Like the European Union, it was pushed on Europeans by the USA as a means of controlling the continent and dominating it politically through proxies, playing one European country against another. Like in all empires, underlings aren't allowed to be militarily superior, or even equal, to the hegemon that exercises suzereinty over them.
