  1. It was a planned withdrawal. The idea that the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan was precipitous and unplanned is what the US wants everyone to believe. Don't fall for it.

  3. It reminds me of Ukraine, another country that was cobbled together from areas previously controlled by its neighbours and with very little of it having had an existence as an independent state.

  4. It would seem that these Baltic republics were collectively better off during their time as part of the Soviet Union. They all seem to have suffered social and economic decline since adopting the capitalist 'free market' system of western capitalism.
