  1. The European Union has shot itself in the foot regarding its energy policy. No doubt the USA has had a hand in persuading European governments to buy their gas at fluctuating spot prices rather than at a single, stable and guaranteed price set in advance by Russian energy provider Gazprom. I'm also given to wondering just how much of this energy crisis is due to real shortages and supply problems and how much of it is actually contrived through the deliberate creation of artificial scarcity.
