@richardscathouse The ruling class of America secretly want immigration, both legal and illegal, to keep wages low, reduce labour shortages and stave off demographic collapse.

Cooperation tends to be better than conflict in the long run.

What is referred to as 'The West' is in fact not as monolithic an entity as it's so often made out to be. Instead it is a diverse and dynamic grouping of individual countries with often conflicting interests that may appear to have solidarity on the face of things but in reality is often deeply divided. We must not mistake the Europe that is under the hegemony of the USA for the Europe that can say "no" when it really matters.

Soon the government of the USA might run out of things to sanction and if that happens it will have to re‐learn the art of negotiation. Sanctions can only take you so far.

What part of the USA, red state or blue, conservative or progressive? The population of the USA tend to divided in their viewpoints on Republican versus Democrat, North‐South lines.

@tinatang1 If only one could go back into the past and show the presidents of the USA what would happen if they created the Federal Reserve, the CIA and the FBI, got involved in world wars 1 & 2, the Korean war, etc. maybe the world would be a better place. Come to think of it, if we could go back into the past and do this with all the world's leaders....

@danintheoutback1 A multilateral world, which is what the Chinese and Russians say they want, could still lead to a trilateral hegemony where the USA, China and Russia dominate the world together, dividing it into spheres of influence. Thus, rather than getting rid of US domination you could end up still being under their thumb if China assigns Australia/New Zealand to the US sphere of influence. The only real difference is that under such an arrangement Australia will not be (as) hostile to Chinese interests.
