  1. He'll be calling them Russians next (which wouldn't be untrue as that is what they are). However, if they did they would be implicitly recognising Russia's legitimacy – protecting its own people in what historically until very recently was a part of Russia.

  3. Aligned on paper. In the future as China's economic influence in Europe becomes even stronger and counters that of the USA the nations of eastern Europe will find themselves increasingly leaning towards the east and Russia as the natural Eurasian go‐between.
