Comments by "John Roberts" (@view1st) on "Russia Demands US Strategic Retreat, Demands US Agree Draft Treaties Ending/Reversing NATO Expansion" video.
Only if the United States insists on making them so. Disband NATO and remove US troops from Europe and they will be no need for buffer states on Russia's borders (unless Germany or France become warlike).

As mentioned by Alexander this serves as a basis for further discussions.

1. The Russian Federation is not demanding a return to the pre‐1990 status quo for NATO, it is merely demanding no further expansion eastwards and in particular no attempt to bring Ukraine, Belarus or any other country bordering the Russian Federation into NATO. 2. The nuclear weapons of the USA do not need to be based in Europe to be effective therefore there is no need to station them so close to the borders of the Russian Federation. To do so is a provocation. 3. The expansion of NATO is unnecessary as the Warsaw Pact no longer exists and the Russian Federation is not a threat. However, as an anti‐Russian military alliance led by the USA, a non‐European country, the continued existence of NATO is an ongoing threat to the Russian Federation and creates unnecessary tension between the countries of Europe by threatening the peace and security of the whole continent.

What in your opinion would be reasonable?

As a substantial part of the economy of the United States seems to depend on military related procurement for growth a drawdown in military spending, which is what the disbanding or reduction in size of NATO would entail, could be a great loss to its overall economy. I therefore don't think the USA could agree to any reduction of NATO. Maybe if the drawdown of NATO was phased and spread over a decade or two, it might be possible, allowing the USA to redirect its economy to one not so dependent on the military , intelligence security sectors.
