  1. The Russian Federation may be considered a 'western' nation in so far as it is a fully developed country located in Europe that shares a common cultural heritage with the rest of the continent. Also, one isolated example doesn't refute the main point that the United Nations is biased towards certain western European countries and the USA in particular.

  3. Like NATO the EU serves the interests of the USA and those countries most closely aligned with it, eg. the UK. It pursues an Atlanticist agenda, one that is pro-Anglo-American in terms of economic, political and military policies, instead of one that is continentalist.

  4. China and Russia would still want a de facto or de jure right of veto. At the very least they would want it to be like BRICS+, an organisation relying entirely on voluntary and consensual action. Only in things that don't effect them directly might they be amendable to a more forceful or coercive approach (sanctions, boycotts, embargoes, etc.).

  5. The Chinese are not going to save the world. They are fully corporatist at this stage – albeit in a somewhat different and apparently more successful form to that of the USA – but they still want globalisation and the USA is going to be a part of that.

  6. I'm given to understand that the organisation has put on hold further enlargement for the time being. I don't think China in particular wants the organisation to grow too big, too quickly the way that it can be argued NATO and the EU have grown, especially as some of the prospective countries may not share the values that China is hoping to foster.
