  1. The BRICS members should emphasise the nature of the organisation – to facilitate trade between nations – and that it's not like the UN or the SCO where countries compete for influence.

Bilateral treaties between countries obliging mutual assistance (though not necessarily of the military kind) in case of attack could be a partial solution, whilst international organisations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) could serve as an alternative venue for the resolution of disputes, cutting out the need for the United Nations to get involved except a an observer.
