  1. Once the Chinese (or those with global influence) decide to use the Yuan (or whatever currency can serve as a substitute) as the new reserve currency. And not until! Trading in one's own currency is not the same as creating a new reserve currency. Also, the Chinese and Russians, Indians and Brazilians and all the rest are quite happy to go along with sanctions, especially if they come from the United Nations – eg. on Saddam Husseins' Iraq in Gulf War 1, on North Korea, on Muammar Quaddafi 's Libya, on Slobodan Milosovic's Yugoslavia, on Iran, on Syria and the Palestinians.
