  2. India's GDP is not a reliable indicator of economic and political stability, much less social progress. It's only because capitalists and corporatists in the West love GDP because it allows them to portray themselves as progressive (and westerners are obsessed with the idea of progress). India's lack of a single, powerful centre with an overarching moral-ideological underpinning that its people can buy in to and that can systematically plan and implement a national economic plan the way the Chinese and Russians do will seriously hinder India. If India rises it will be in spite of itself.
