In Europe the most a killer would get would be 20 years and the lightest is 6 years. 18 years is a long time being locked up and sitting on your ass for 23 hours a day with only one hour of recreational. Why don't you try locking yourself in your room and only come out of it for one hour and go back and sit there for the remainder of the day with no TV and barely anything to read. You have to be a role model prisoner in order to get a TV in your cell. 18 years is hard time.

  3.  @Spartacus516  Those sentences cut short are due to "good behavior" during the time in prison. If you haven't caused any trouble with the gaurds and other inmates, then you could have a chance at early release.

You know how long a year feels going by just being active and able to move about freely feels like....a long time itself. Now imagine sitting on your ass for 23 hours a day with only one hour of recreational time for 18 years and then count each minute of every hour going by each day of every month, it'll feel like forever.

  10.  @arktkt06  Prison/ jail is boring-as-fuck, repetitive, redundant, the same bullshit routine day after day…month after…year after, etc. it can be depressing, lonely, intimidating, and at times scary, even frightening for some inmates. Particularly if you’ve never been locked up before, or haven’t spent much time inside, as you don’t know what to expect and you have no experience on how to “program”. This refers to a daily routine an inmate has from the time they get up, ie: breakfast, shower, required tasks (job or school), yard, exercise/ work-out. The things one does to basically stay busy through out the long monotonous days. Does this sound like 18 years isn't enough? I got this off the internet about prison life. See, I told you, you try doing what you think is a light sentence of 18 years.

  11.  @marshmelo15  In most prisons, an inmate does spend 23 hrs in his/her cell. Work detail is given only to those who have earned it through good behavior and or low risk inmates. If that's the case, then everyone in prison would be on a work detail. Matter of fact, that wouldn't be a bad idea.... back in the day, when prisons were hard, you were forced to hammer and chisel stone while wearing heavy chains. They should bring that back.

  12.  @arktkt06  Not suggesting they come live with me or that the victim's families aren't going through hell and have to deal with a life sentence of their own, but the law is the law and 18 years is a long stretch of hard time. Sentence has been handed down, no amount of anger is going to change the time serving.
