@taco1391 The militarization came from the north hollywood shootout, back when the police were outgunned by the bank robbers back then. Every since then, they been upgrading their gear to look ever increasing intimidating and fear mongering. The gear and high powered assault rifles gives them that intimidation factor that tells you to back away. Once they are stripped of their power tripping gear and replaced with normal riot gear and police uniforms, they will be retrained back to the ways of the police force in the 80s and only given handguns and shotguns as primary weapons to use in intense situations. That's what demilitarization means.
