From what I have seen from police in Germany if you are trying to talk to them and use the wrong words they don't get upset. Especially when it is clear you are not a native speaker. Actually, police in Germany have always been nice and polite every time I have encountered them so far. I have also never seen them just resting a hand on their gun, which I have seen a lot in the USA. That is one thing I really like about Germany. It never feels like a police officer might draw a gun and shoot you at any moment. They actually seem relaxed.
