  1. I am living in Germany, as an American, and I just don't see how walmart could ever work here. Markets are mixed with the housing so most people don't live more than about 5 minute walk from fresh bakeries and markets. These are mostly small discount stores that have all of the normal stuff you need. Walmarts are huge stores and that would mean having to travel much further to get to one. Also because stores are so close most people in Germany have small freezers are refrigerators. Why store a bunch of food when you can just walk to the store in a few minutes? In the USA most people I knew would go to the store 1 every week or two and stock up on a LOT of stuff while in Germany mostly people go every 2 days or so.
