This rifle use full power 6.5mm Arisaka rifle round, so it is a battle rifle. Ammo is weak cmpared to other rifle rounds from same era, but it is still much longer and 25% more powerful than the 7,62x39mm. Many people say that 7.62 AK recoil too much. If we only look at the rifle as a consept and forget that there were no suitable cartridges back then, then it is an assault rifle.

So what does the rifle's fire selector do?

@themilkman6969 .308 Win. is not weaker than 7,62 Nato.

@themilkman6969 What point?

@themilkman6969 Wtf you even talking about?

@themilkman6969 Best way to avoid whole argument about Fedorov Avtomat and 6,5 Arisaka is to say that the StG is the 1st succesful or mass produced assault rifle.

Not quite 200k, but close. They made 3k of them.

How many mags is the standart combat loadout in US Marines or US Military?
1
7,62x51mm is a rifle cartridge not intermediate.

After field strip it is easy to see why bolt actions are obsolete.

@Zayphar That's a safety switch and what are "semi-auto modes"? How many semi-automatic modes there are? Fire selector switch between single shot and automatic and/or burst.
1
@Zayphar Are you sure? Lets say you have StG-44. How do you switch its selector to safe? Hint: You don't.
1
@Zayphar You were talking about fire selectors which btw this rfile has. Assault rifle is select fire rifle that feed intermediate cartridges from detachable magazine. Name didn't exist before 1944 and the concept took time to spread. 2 out 3 match, but 6,5mm Arisaka is a rifle round. If Fedorov have had real intermediate rounds, then the rifle would be true AR. It's close but doesn not fully fit in the gategory.
