The people that often reach these positions are just driven and more motivated. That doesn't mean they are better, they just appear that way on a one to one basis. That being said, they are so far removed from the realities of the inner workings of the thing they govern that they may as well not exist. What they do is drive profit at the expense of the company and consumer. Every job I ever had that had corporate overlords was literally mismanaged by their lack of understanding the basics of how the company worked in day to day reality.
