@rorerj wrong. If the SUV had caused the accident the police officer would cite them for failure to yield. You can ask any police officer or CHP about this and they would say you are wrong.

@tammygross144 your assessment is way off. CHP mentioned this on the news as quoted: "That's a very good question," said Sgt. Brian Pennings with the California Highway Patrol. "If you are the established vehicle, traveling on the roadway and want to execute the left turn (U-turn), you have established your right of way." "That person making the right turn has to yield to oncoming traffic that is close enough to constitute an immediate hazard prior to executing their turning movement, and that includes you making a U-turn, already established on that roadway."
2
@solidmoon8266 actually wrong. Right turn person must yield. You can argue with CHP if you want to about this but I doubt they would want to agree with you.
2
@NotTheRealRustyShackleford you are way off on this one. In CA, you are allowed to make U turns in those intersections as long as there is no sign saying otherwise. I also looked up the location online and there is no green right arrow either, so your argument would not hold up.
2
@scottgarner8270 doesn't matter. You are to never assume a car in the left lane is making a left turn. It doesn't hurt waiting a few seconds for your turn. Can't tell you how many people fail at this and I have had the same experience where I was doing a U turn on a protected green and some idiot tried playing victim when they were making a right turn when there were cars in front and behind me.
2
@MyNameisJeffReacts you need to talk to police more often before opening your mouth and going on a rant.
2
@stevefoss5486 no. People need to stop being a-holes and trying to run the light to make a right turn. I cannot tell you how many idiots don't wait and act like victims when they are required to yield. People need to stop assuming that you are turning left and just wait for a bit.
2
@Grizazzle buzz. Wrong. If you got into an accident by making a right turn while the other party made a legal U turn, the police would cite you for failure to yield. CHP has talked about this subject with the news.

@kenbrown2808 wrong as well. Most traffic lights in California don't have a green arrow unless it is prohibited to make a U turn at which case most traffic lights have an additional arrow on the bottom.

Good job on trying but failing to follow traffic laws. When you get into an accident for failing this, I hope everyone laughs at you.

For anyone still saying the dash cammer is wrong and the other driver had a green arrow, open Google Maps and look up the address of 5351 Kearny Villa Road, San Diego, CA 92123. There is no green arrow for right turns, so please think before spewing out nonsense.

@tomcorey9833 hahahaha. You are way off on this one. No person in a business district shall make a U-turn, except at an intersection, or on a divided highway where an opening has been provided in accordance with Section 21651.This turning movement shall be made as close as practicable to the extreme left-hand edge of the lanes moving in the driver's direction of travel immediately prior to the initiation of the turning movement, when more than one lane in the direction of travel is present. So you take the L on this one.
1
@scottgarner8270 L ratio on the last part. You are required to yield and treat any U turns as a left turn when you are making a right turn. I already quoted someone from CHP about this.
1
@tammygross144 wrong again. Right turn was being executed at the same time as the U turn. L ratio
1
@kenbrown2808 wrong actually. You might want to look at the address of 5351 Kearny Villa Road, San Diego, CA 92123 since there is no green arrow for right turns.

@Earthneedsado-over177 then have fun changing signs for so many intersections. I live near LA and there are traffic lights without the signage.
