  1. Even if Omicron is significantly less dangerous than delta it's high rate of infection means that we will have a huge number of cases and some percentage will become seriously ill. Even a small percentage when applied to a huge number results in a large number. In January and February there is a risk that the hospitals will be placed under great strain and may even be overwhelmed. There may be light at the end of the tunnel but the road ahead could still be rocky.
