I've used Google Maps to look at a couple of random locations around 60kms outside of St Petersburg. Even the main roads are breaking up and the side-streets are unsealed and full of potholes. Some of the houses look ok but there are lots of decaying massive blocks of concrete apartments. As a general impression these places might have been OK twenty or thirty years ago, but those days are long past.

@EconLessons Agreed, had Russia invested its profits from the sale of oil, gas etc into education, infrastructure, health services, industry, housing etc it would indeed be today a far better place
