  1. China wants Taiwan but eastern Russia would be a lucrative and far easier target. If I remember my history correctly Central Asia has for centuries been contested between Turkey, Iran, Russia and China, now that Russia is weakening this area is again in play and the countries there will be seeking new friends and the old rivals will seek to extend their influence.
