  1. I agree, a nuclear power plant under Russian control is frightening, a release of large amounts of radiation due either by deliberate action or stupidity is a real possibility.

  2. If Russia was to use a strategic nuclear weapon on a western city the consequences are too terrible to contemplate for all (including Russia). A tactical nuclear weapon(s) would certainly blow a hole in Ukrainian lines, but to exploit that hole Russia would first have to mass tanks and supporting armoured vehicles behind the lines and of course move the weapon(s) out of storage. It is certain that this would be noticed by the Western powers which would result intense diplomatic discussions and possible pre-emptive strikes(s). Assuming everything goes well for the Russians, they have a hole in Ukrainian lines that they can exploit but Ukrainian forces elsewhere will be largely unaffected so once that encroachment into Ukraine is sealed off the war will simply continue but now with possible direct NATO involvement.
