Thank you for calling us black Americans. I'm glad to not be considered African American anymore and I mean absolutely no disrespect to any African countries (especially Kenya Ghana Rwanda Botswana and Tanzania!) it's just that we have absolutely no idea about our African roots. We are black American! Edit: If you're a descendant of the Transatlantic Slave trade, you're a Hebrew Israelite by blood. Your oppressors stripped your history for being the bloodline of God's (Yahuahs) chosen people. This is biblically and scientifically proven.

@rexx9496 I completely agree and understand. It's the going to other countries part that makes me know I'm just an American. As a black American I'm ALWAYS just American when I visit other countries. It's all the other countries that make me realize I'm an American. It's the other Americans that have an issue with me being just American..even though I'm proudly a black American. Funny how that works ain't it?

@1pinestreet I'm from the 80's and we're all gonna be considered just "black" from here on out. Even us light skinned to the dark. We're all just "black" now 🙂

@davidz7858 You might need to read the definition of discrimination. We call ourselves black American. That's who we are and thats what it is. The question now is why does everyone else who isn't black.. why do y'all have negative attitudes about this? Please make that make sense.

@emanualcarr7408 I made sure to think this clearly before responding. The cities that black people are moving to are the educated and sophisticated black folk like myself. Imagine all us common black folk from the hood that want to make it out to better ourselves. We all have to move somewhere! These are the cities we're moving to. The people that STILL don't want to live by us are simply racist. That's a normal part of this country. People are confused, some by choice some by lack of knowledge. Hopefully see this other perspective.

@avhd187 To be honest you're unnecessarily making things complicated. We don't "need" the term but we're still black folk/ black people, (formerly colored, negroes and African American.) We're also simply American. There should be absolutely no problem with labeling ourselves black American.

@L0R3N23 what kind of research are you referring to? Ancestry? What kind of technology do you want every black man to have so we can make sure to take advantage of that when it becomes affordable.

@Incognarco5950 It'll get there for sure but for now people ain't ready for that indigenous title. We went from negroes to colored to African and now were finally calling ourselves just black and we're "making" everyone call us that too. Because it's the easiest and makes the most sense. For now we will call ourselves black.

@creativemanifestation8295 I wouldn't be surprised. But my hair nose and lips are of African descent. My light skin color shows I'm a mix of quite a lot. But I am still a black man. Always have been always will be.

But I will continue to maintain the fact that I'm not African because I'm not from Africa (again, obviously I'm African descendant) but I ain't African! I'm American bro. I'm American AF too. @lilrog0909 I'm a descendant of the ones who said "you're gonna have to kill me" and were hanged from trees with nooses. If you wanna be labeled as an ados that's your choice. I'll say this much though. Nobody cares about your descendants' slavery. Everyone wants to forget about that part and they get offended if you try to bring it up. Especially in a title. But good luck with that "I used to be a slave" title.

@Ath-lk3xg I clearly understand your angle as a black man. Let me say this though, Charlize Theron, the actress, blonde hair blue eyes, is an African American and that's what she identifies as. (She was born in South Africa). Do you at least see the angle of us black folk that don't care to be considered African?

@Rodthegemini You're one of the rare fortunate ones to know their African roots. I'd consider myself African American too if I was rooted. But most us black folk in America don't know and really don't care about our African roots. We're even lucky to know 3-4-5 generations. Going back to Africa is like ancient history.

@LadyMarie599 Well that's good for you and I see absolutely no problem with that. There's just a very high percentage of us that don't know and don't care about our African roots. I know personally we're clearly African descendant but... We're not African...that's just the way most of us feel.

@LadyMarie599 Oh yeah this country completely stripped me/us. And I am completely ok with that. Don't get me wrong, it'd be very cool, interesting and surely informative if I could somehow know exactly which country/location of Africa I'm descended from especially the personal stories of what transpired from there to here. But I'm too far removed from that generationally. that's akin to asking to hit the lottery it's never gonna happen and I never really cared. Tbh I'm confident I'd rather not know about my ancestry something tells me in my soul it's not good. Pardon my french but I'm American AF. We are free out here now.

Back to your point we are definitely both American and African descendant.....my take is that I'm not African! Descendant yes, but I'm not African at all, I'm American. Black American. I don't want to be called African American anymore. I want to be called what I want to be called. And thats black American. Most black folk side with me, but clearly there are people who have a problem with that which I wasn't aware of until now. I'm gonna keep my stance that us black folk should be considered black American. Doesn't matter if we're light skinned like myself, brown skinned or dark. We're all black American and I'm sticking with that.... So should you if you're a black person in America

@daedae1522 Yeah I threw 8n the light skin because people are starting to act like that matter. 8 only brought it up because that's where we are in today's world. Of course my shade of skin doesn't matter 8m still a black man. If you want to label yourself as African American by all means do that. Just realized that the tides are turning with that label. To me it's like calling me colored, or negro. It just doesn't sit right anymore and I'm not the only one of us who feels this way. Just look at the likes on this thread for proof.

@daedae1522 I know what most of us want based on community. The signs are all around. Take a look at how many likes this thread has. I'm from the hood, the projects. I made it out but I stay connected because my family is still there and I have pride on what raised me and made me who I am as a black man 8n America. Everyone from my neck of the woods could care less about anything African. We're out here trying to survive in America. THAT'S how I know. The question now should be why do you have a problem with us calling ourselves black American?

I don't have any tangible statistics I'm going purely by life circumstances. This topic needs no analytics. Yes, I've had to explain myself to a lot of people which is shocking AF especially considering the majority of people I'm defending myself to are black folk just like myself. It's just a title. Black American or African American. The tides are turning towards black American. But na, there's other black folk who have issues with that. So here we are.

However "black" is an ethnicity. I'm a black American like we all are unless you have knowledge of your African roots.

@AhiYahYsraYL That doesn't mean we deserve any kind of civic, economic, or governmental superiority. We have cultural superiority and if we are indeed descendants of Hebrew Israelites I personally think we should simply call ourselves believers and followers of Christ.

@itsduke6657 At this point it seems like a process of elimination. If there is a better word/label for us I'm all for it. I'm lightskinned anyways. The rest of my family is a good mix of dark and light tones. The only other word I could imagine would be "dark" America which not only sounds negative but would confuse the black communities when we call ourselves dark or light skinned(or mixed). Black just seems the most normal/common even with it's dark origins.

@WORKSbaby That's really what we should be called because that's really who we are. Our history got severely whitewashed by the Renaissance era Europeans. But for arguments sake Black American is what we labeled ourselves instead of being labeled by Europeans. But you're right, we are American.

My question is, what's the problem with a black man wanting to be labeled a black man? Why should I be called African if I have absolutely no connection to Africa and no one in Africa claims me to begin with? Why would I keep the term given by my oppressors? With that said, we're all really Hebrew Israelites anyways. (If you're a descendant of the Transatlantic slave trade, you're a Hebrew Israelite by blood and your entire heritage was stripped away when you were sold to your oppressors). I'm a black man, and it's kinda sad(not really, I honestly don't care) that other black folk are upset that I call myself a black man.
