  1. "It is difficult to get information about this from reliable sources" That's deliberate, on the part of those "reliable" sources. Wikipedia is in dire need of a rethink about the sources considered "reliable".

  2. "This is one of the most evil things ever to have happened on this country's soil" It's not so unusual though, in areas of Moorish settler colonialism / imperial conquest. Moors in France and Spain would establish strongholds from which to kidnap girls as slaves, from the surrounding countryside. Getting rid of this threat was among the most compelling reasons for the Reconquista.
