  1. The fact that this statue could have been made in the first place, was a symbol of post-Civil War national unity -- in Lincoln's words, "We are not enemies but friends." The destruction of this statue means that under the new regime, pluralism will not be tolerated, and this Culture War is a take-no-prisoners affair. It's diabolical.
