"I used to think that social media companies should be like the mail carriers, but the things they carry can be dangerous" One of the organizations that led up to the American Revolution was known as the "committees of correspondence", and patriots such as Samuel Adams were writing letters to men across Massachusetts with messages that would very reasonably be considered "discouraging trust in British government policies". Should the mail carriers have been able to refuse to send these letters? What about the pamphlets and broadsides, designed to reach as wide an audience as possible? Should this all have been suppressed? After all, it arguably caused a "war", "rebellion", "revolution", or "insurrection", depending on whom you ask.

"We're not thinking, we're emoting" Some emotion is warranted and inevitable. Consider Paul Revere's woodcut of the riot he dubbed "The Boston Massacre". Also consider the amount of thinking that went into government structures, in Boston at the time.
