  2. Let's be realistic here. A lot of single mothers made decisions that made their situation inevitable, and many others through their behavior and decisions contributed greatly to their singleness. And, because statistics about results are valuable, we have proof that single mothers are NOT in fact doing a good job. Pity for these women, is not the same as love and compassion. Compassion for these children is NOT letting their mothers off the hook. Love and compassion means telling them the truth, even when that can only come across in the form of criticism. Criticism, and getting them the skills and encouragement they need to make relationships with their child's father work, is the solution here.
