  2.  @darrenwithers3628  Because they were asked by the Byzantine Empire to liberate lands that the Muslims had taken by force? There's a reason that Dwight Eisenhower called the D-Day landings a "crusade". Islam had no better claim to Byzantine lands than the Germans did to the rest of Europe.

  3.  @darrenwithers3628  Not really beside the point, if you think that winning WWII was good and heroic. At some point moral relativism fails. This is one of those points.

  4.  @darrenwithers3628  I've studied how Paris used crusades to unite France. Sometimes it was just politics. The ones to liberate Byzantine territory were not.
