Committed Communists ended up in the gulags (like Bret ended up in what he dubbed the "dark web", which is an extraordinarily insulting that has been accepted very naively by the likes of Rubin and Peterson) but they still believed wholeheartedly in Communism. He doesn't realize that what happened to him is an absolutely essential part of what the Left is about these days. They are the emperor with no clothes. If they fail to silence dissent, the smallest whisper of truth will bring them down. Any paradigm with completely disprovable claims, such as that there are no biological differences between men and women, has glaring anomalies that are fatal to its existence. Watching him come to that realization -- and he's smart enough to come to that realization, even though he's arrogant enough that it may take him some time -- will be as satisfying as watching Trump replace RBG.
