  1. I was talking socially with someone (who identified as Arabic) from the territory that the Romans called Palestine. He made a distinction (which was apparently colloquial among his contemporaries) between Arabs like himself, and "Christians" in that territory. These were the (non-Jewish) natives of Palestine who were not Arab. He referred to them as "Christians" despite their having converted to Islam, and made the distinction because apparently in the last 1000+ years since the Arabs invaded the Byzantine Empire (which, let's recall, was a Christian country that ruled all of Asia Minor (now Turkey), the Balkans and Greece, all of the Middle East, Egypt, and North Africa), Arabs were still distinct from the people of the Byzantine Christian territories they conquered.
