  3. That bass part underneath the chorus -- it's lower than most human men can sing, and it's almost playful as it bubbles up into a major key. It's like God winking at you and telling you, "Life is rough, but it's gonna be allright".

  4. Where the vocals double on "TV shows" and "away from me" - the main vocal is still on the kind of chill, adultlike level it's been on, but the descant puts really childish emotions on top of that, as if there's an incipient tantrum somewhere in there.

  5. Like Bach. Yes. I'm a bit of a classical buff still, and my favorite is still the fleeting moments about three-quarters of the way through Bach's Little Fugue in g minor. After the mournful, tumbling, sometimes chaotic thoughts, in amongst the cascades above and the sweeping intervals below, the middle just starts to *soar*, handing an arc of notes back and forth between two middle voices. It doesn't actually last long, and the tumbling thoughts come back, but something seems to have resolved itself in the piece so that it can wrap up happily and almost peacefully, in spite of it all.

  6. The bass part there is simple and patient, with none of the dissonance of the vocals or the other guitars. It's the footsteps of God, walking along beside him, almost unnoticed but supporting it all.

  7. Can't you pick out a single bass voice that's more or less polyphonic in there though? You're totally right, picking it out chord by chord is a wild ride, but if you simply did two voices then built those chords around them (and mixed it up a little more maybe) I can see how they came up with it.
