  1. "In every nook and cranny the universe is intelligible" Except that at small enough scales, it's not. Quantum-mechanical tunneling means you sometimes get particles jumping from one place to another, (when they're in a lab, at least) at random. This is the distance scale where the connections in the human mind operate. It would break the laws of physics (it would take a miracle) for a person to spontaneously cause a baseball to teleport a few feet into the air. It would not break any laws of physics for a person's will, or soul, to direct the material mediators of our own thoughts, because physics says it's arbitrary anyway. In other words, a universe that has this design for our brains and these rules for particle physics, is a universe where our brains can provide the material foundation for a soul with free will.
