It's the other way around. The Enlightenment, or the sliver of it that was not a Christian project (Kant, Newton, etc), was tamed by Christianity. When Islam had its Reformation / Enlightenment / Secularization / Al Minha, the Caliph mistreated devout religious scholars as badly as any Inquisition ever did. When Enlightenment thought hit Japan it took on a decidedly Frederician tone, when it hit China it resulted in Mao's lunacy, and when it hit Southeast Asia you got the killing fields.
