"What does self-esteem mean?" It seems to me that we used to use the words "pride" and "courage" to describe the phenomenon - you didn't let others walk all over you, and you weren't too timid to act.

"Schools don't want anyone to ever lose" Any game you lose regularly, is a game you quit, because it's unrewarding. This isn't all that irrational -- you only have so much energy and attention. It seems to me that the solution here is to have a wide enough variety of useful activities that kids can excel in at least something. Didn't old-fashioned English schools make an conscious effort to discover whatever talents a kid may have had?

@svetavinogradova4243 You don't want a world full of Florence Foster Jenkins, that's true enough. But if we don't find a path for people who are no better than average at anything to have a dignified life, that's going to be incredibly destabilizing to our society. Honestly, the most trouble comes from the people who are above average, but not as far above average as they think they are.

@svetavinogradova4243 I couldn't agree with you more, about how parents need to make sure their kids have the capability to make it in the world. If your kid needs you to devote extra hours all the time to get them up to speed -- and not take any short cuts like doing their homework for them -- that's exactly what being a parent is all about. What would help parents (and the kids), is having more ways to make it in the world, and the more of these ways that schools explore, the better.

"It's a child's job to reject the values of their parents" Isn't this a completely socially corrosive attitude? No wonder Europe is collapsing.

"If you can't distinguish between male and female you're not going to reproduce" Yup. That's the point. This is a deeply anti-human, anti-natal philosophy. There is no way that any society can continue with this philosophy. Anything that can't continue, will stop. It's best if we stop this before it does too much damage.

"It's a child's job to separate from their parents" No. It's a child's job to figure out how to be OK when their parents die. It's the parents whose departure is inevitable.
