"We assume strangers don't mean us any harm" And you can thank Christian civilization for that.

@Charles-ij1ow Religious institutions have been under sustained attack for the last century, by atheistic regimes hostile to not only Christianity but to America as well. The game changed a bit when Moscow fell silent in 1989, but Beijing has picked up the slack very handily.

"This is why science that happens in the free world is so far ahead of science that happens under dictatorships" So apparently we live under a dictatorship of bureaucrats like Tony Fuaci.
3
"Tools will be turned into weapons. That's why we need government." Except the government is the body turning those tools into weapons. We need something above government. Our rights need to come from God, not from government, or some gameable "social contract".

"How could a professor at Harvard forget about secular treatments?" Same way those seculars could forget that Harvard started as a seminary, I guess. Also, you can look at the sort of atrocities that secular academic bioethicists come up with on a regular basis, and think that maybe those "ethicists" are monsters occupying an institution that should have been strong enough to exorcise them rather than accept them.

History has not ended, imagine my shock. =)

"All of the advances in the last 5000 years have been secular, fought by the religious" You're defining Jesus as secular, now? Wow. Most changes are fought by the establishment, and because many establishments have an associated religion, you can frame your evidence that way. It's sloppy thinking, though. Eisenhower was religious and Fascists and Communists were secular, and I'm glad Eisenhower won out in both cases.
2
"You need to justify it to us" We shall be as gods. Is it impossible for you to imagine a group that together lacks a proper answer??
2
"For every problem, there's a solution that is simple, persuasive, and wrong" Secularism / atheism isn't all that persuasive -- two out of three ain't bad though.
1
"God is unnecessary and doesn't explain anything" - Creation - Radical reorientation of ethics / morality towards something humans clearly don't come up with on their own
1
"The academy has gone very wrong" Hillsdale is one of the few going right. It's almost alone in this.

Great to see you on another channel like this! Algo is finally catching on, I suppose.

@mostlynotworking4112 There's a popcorn emoji? Gonna have to start using that. =)

@mikecaruso9425 Yeah, Dennett kept insisting on a simplistic directionality that simply doesn't have any evidence to back it up.
1
@jmal1552 Dennett brought nothing but dogmatic assertions about "secularism = progress", almost as if he didn't live most of his life in the 20th century. Peterson got about all the good it's possible to get out of this conversation he might as well have talked to a recording looping the statement "religion bad and old fashioned, science new and shiny!" -- or a wall.

"A pattern isn't an extra thing" It's not an extra material thing, but it is a Spirit.
1
"The fundamental pieces of our genetic code have to self-repair with 100% accuracy" Yes. That's basically why the Ten Commandments are set in stone, so that we can self-correct back to them when we deviate.
1
"We have a grip on things" Except chaos. We're learning just how much of the world consists of linked systems of partial differential equations, although we haven't learned it sufficiently yet.

@RyanLongArt What would you say that Hollywood's position is, on Christian civilization?
1
@joshyman221 Communists don't desire to suppress others? Fascists? Bureaucrats from London to Brussels? As you point out, Woke? Atheists are all about control. The UK is running on fumes -- the "cut flower" effect is in full swing. London is turning in to a Pakistani / Indian border town, as the feminists decided Britain would have no more children, and the immigrants that the "Elites" bring in to make sure "GDP go up!" bring their old ethnic hatreds with them. Even Dawkins is running full reverse on his take on Christianity. Whether he gets all the way there before the Islamists he's irritated get to him, remains to be seen.

He didn't really show it here. He's just a dogmatic "religion bad, secularism good" fundamentalist who apparently doesn't know anything about the history of the century he spent most of his life in. "One nation under God" Eisenhower did more for humanity than "everything under the secular state" Marx / Stalin / Midcentury German ever dreamed of.
1
... That is the best y'all can do?
1
"Syncretism leads to monotheism" Except for the Romans it didn't really. Monotheism was antithetitcal to their religious approach. China's religions (Confucianism, Buddhism) are radically different, and India is still polytheistic.

"Shoes represent identity" Well, hats are better. Which is why taking off your hat is a gesture of openness in an interaction -- your identity is subject to change.
