  1. "How does a dream contain more than we understand?" Probably because our mental networks of meaning have primary (think of denotations here) and secondary (think of connotations here) connections. This is why figurative language works -- it relies on traversing the network using only secondary nodes. Heck, this is why language itself works -- a word is a signifier that gets attached to a set of sense-memories, and that word is traversed instead of traversing the entire block of sense-memory.
