"We have been seduced by the digital revolution, where things change every couple of years" That will slow down, now that Moore's Law ("the number of transistors you can fit on a chip doubles every 18 months") is no longer in force. In fact, it hasn't been for half a decade or so now, which is why your laptop now isn't significantly better than your last laptop.

@johnowens5342 I'm working on a project whose data demands regularly go into the terabyte range. If better computers were available, we'd buy them. But, they're not, because computers really aren't getting a lot better -- at least, not nearly as fast as they used to. We may not have reached Peak Compute, but we've certainly leveled off.
