  2. "Why are people so unaware of how thin the veneer of civilization is?" The table-flippers feel they're losing the game. We don't have enough games, so that everyone can be winning at least some of them, at least some of the time. This is why subsidiarity is so important, and why winner-take-all at the national level is so destructive. The tragic irony here, is these people don't see that monolithic totalitarianism is the end state of the temptation to chaos they're falling to.

  3. Trump is a fundamental threat to the Establishment, but not to minorities / America / freedom / whatever. Trump is the first champion of Liberty-minded Democracy, in the new Cold War between that position and Authoritarian Bureaucracy. The American establishment derives their power from the idea that Authoritarian Bureaucracy is legitimate. In that, they are the enemy of America, and of freedom more broadly.

  4. There's a dying lion by the edge of a firepit (was the firepit lit, or unlit?) on the right side of your cabin. Not in good shape, but still impressive. On the left side of the cabin, there's a multitude of predatory cats, and you had to speak to keep them at bay. Questions - Have you ever read the Chronicles of Narnia? What are your aunt's feelings on religion? Why was there only one lion on the right side of the cabin? Did you think you had to keep that single lion at bay? I don't think that single lion had anything to do with the New York Times. In fact, the New York Times probably poisoned the old lion, before being eaten by the younger ones.
