  2. The way you counteract Pareto distributions (and I think I've heard Dr. Peterson talk about this) is to multiply the number or hierarchies. One such grouping is the nuclear family, which is under normal circumstances the only way anyone gets to be the most important person in someone else's life. The father is the most important man in the mother's life, and the mother is the most important woman in the father's life, and the children are agreed-upon to be more important that either, really, because both the father and the mother have an instinct to consider them so when they are the biological kids of that particular father and that particular mother. Other jury-rigged systems are possible, but far more frequently lead to very dark places.
