  1. We're returning to the 1980's for our pop culture because we were optimistic then. Unfortunately, the new crop of Hollywood types takes everything from the 80's except the optimism. It's astonishing to me watch old footage of Reagan (for example, on Firing Line) and he looks so relaxed, and just plain *happy*. It's amazing. Then I look at the (divisive) 60's and the (sclerotic) 70's, and ask myself, "Why not have a repeat of the optimistic 80's today?"
