  1. The government *DID screw it up*. Hayek's point is that when Government gets involved, it picks winners and losers. The winners in this case are the big businesses getting their massive bailouts, and the losers are regular Americans who are getting pennies on the dollar in this stimulus bill, and the taxpayers getting stuck with the bill. There is NO WAY to avoid this kind of thing. Give out an equal share to every American? Well, the winners are present-day Americans, and the losers are future Americans who have to pay back the debt we're incurring. There's no free lunch. People in government who tell you government will just screw it up, are correct. Your faith in government is misplaced.

  2. The point of "The Road to Serfdom" is that when the government gets involved, it picks winners and losers. You also complain about the government picking big business winners, and regular Americans losing out, and being indebted on top of it all. So when government gets involved, it just screws things up. This current situation is evidence of that larger point.
